Results

The Basics
  • The lead: Sophomore Eddie Sot shot set a new program single-round low score Saturday with a two-under-par 68 to lead the Stevens Institute of Technology golf team to first place after the first day of competition at the 2019 Montgomery Cup, hosted by Rosemont College.
  • Score: Stevens (298) - first place out of 12 teams
  • Location: Concord Country Club - West Chester, Pa. (Par 70)
  • Short Story: Already in possession of the second-lowest single-round score in program history, Sot carded four birdies en route to a two-under-68. The Berkeley Heights, New Jersey native shot one-over on the front nine and then birdied three of the nine holes on the back nine to tie with Rosemont's Nathan Moore atop the leaderboard. Alumnus Frank Szucs held the previous record with a 69 on Sept. 27, 2015 at the Hamilton College Invitational. Sot matched Szucs at two-under-par for the lowest-round against par in program history. The single-round score of 298 matched the team's score at the Frederic W. Anton III Memorial Invitational earlier this year.
  • The Leaderboard: Sot and Moore are atop the 66-golfer leaderboard. The Ducks (+18) hold a one-shot lead over hosting Rosemont atop the team standings.

The Finishes
  • Sophomore AJ Iacobellis and classmate Brandon Wei are tied at 76, eight shots off the pace. The pair are tied with Franklin & Marshall's Troy Kelleher and Allegheny's Aidan Melville for 15th place.
  • Junior Luke Labenski shot par on each of the first five holes on the back nine to finish eight-over-par 78. He's tied for 21st. Freshman Clement Shao, competing as an individual in his first collegiate tournament, matched Labenski with a 78.
  • Junior Vincent Cortese shot 12-over-par to round out Stevens' contingent.

From the Greens (Head Coach Charles Papendick)
  • "Outstanding play by all of our guys today, especially with playing in unfamiliar territory."
  • "I am very proud of Eddie, as well as A.J., Luke and Brandon. Hope to replicate our play tomorrow."
  • "Extremely impressed with round Eddie played. He was patient and did a fantastic job managing his way to the lowest round played in school history."

Up Next
  • Golf returns to the links Sunday morning for the final round of competition.
