Shao Shines on Day Two as Golf Finishes Seventh at Montgomery Cup

Freshman shoots a 73 to finish tied for 13th in first collegiate event.

The Basics

The lead: Freshman Clement Shao shot a career-low three-over-par 73 Sunday as the Stevens Institute of Technology golf team finished seventh at the 2019 Montgomery Cup, hosted by Rosemont College.
Score: Stevens (298+324=622) - seventh place out of 12 teams
Location: Concord Country Club - West Chester, Pa. (Par 70)
Short Story: Competing as an individual and playing in his first collegiate tournament, Shao trimmed five shots off his opening-round score to finish with a three-over-par 73 to climb into a tie for 13th place with a total score of 151. The Warren, New Jersey native carded five birdies in posting the team's lowest score of the round.
The Leaderboard: Rosemont's Nathan Moore shot a two-over-par 72 to win the individual title by five shots over teammate Michael Lange. Allegheny College shot a 289 to top hosting Rosemont by two shots.

The Finishes

One day after setting a program record with a two-under-par 68, sophomore Eddie Sot shot a nine-over-par 79 to finish with a 147. The Berkeley Heights, New Jersey native finished tied for sixth and his 147 matched the second-lowest 36-hole total in program history.
Among the scores that were counted towards the team total, sophomore Brandon Wei collected a pair of birdies to finish with a 77. He finished 21st.
Juniors Vincent Cortese and Luke Labenski each shot an 84 over the final 18 holes. Labenski finished tied for 39th and Cortese finished 50th.
Sophomore A.J. Iacobellis shot an 89 and finished tied for 48th.

Golf returns to the links in one week's time for the two-day Revolutionary Collegiate Classic, hosted by Ursinus. The event begins October 12 at the Chesapeake Bay Golf Club in Rising Sun, Maryland.
