Box Score FREDERICKSBURG, Va. (October 6, 2019) – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's tennis team finished up their three-day stint in Fredericksburg today. Sophomore
Marc Feliu was the final Stevens player in championship contention after the first two days of competition at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) South Atlantic Regional Championships. Feliu registered four singles wins to reach the semifinals of the championship's singles bracket. The Barcelona, Spain native faced Vishnu Joshi of John Hopkins University in the semifinals, the brackets number three seed.
Marc Feliu could not get momentum on his side during the first set against Joshi, losing 6-1. Feliu was determined to force a third set and was able to push Joshi in the second set but ultimately came up short which ended a fantastic run in singles competition. Number two seed Alexander Angradi of Salisbury University defeated Vishnu Joshi in a thrilling finals match 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 to win the singles bracket. Feliu improved from his round of 16 regional finish in 2018 and will continue to be a major piece in the Ducks line-up during his sophomore campaign.
"This is the second year in a row that we made it to the final day of the ITA tournament which is an impressive feat for our program.
Marc Feliu came with some big wins in singles this weekend; most notably over the #5 seed from Washington and Lee and #1 seed from Christopher Newport," stated Head Coach
Steve Gachko. "Keegan and Marc both competed well all weekend in doubles but lost a heartbreaker to the #3 seed in tiebreaker. We are excited to face a lot of these teams again this coming spring and continue to build upon this weekend's success."
Up Next: The men's tennis team will turn their attention to the MAC individual championship. The Ducks will travel to Wilkes-Barre, Pa. next weekend for the two-day tournament.
