Men’s Fencing Off to Best Start in Program History After Perfect Day in MACFA Group Play

The Ducks Have Won a Program-Best 14 Straight Contests

NEW YORK CITY – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's fencing program went a perfect 6-0 and set a new program record for most consecutive match victories Sunday in the MACFA Group "A" vs. Group "B" competition at the Hunter College Sportsplex.

The Ducks got double-digit victories from sophomore Wolfe Crouse, sophomore Andy Faubert, freshman Patrick Pan, junior Juan Amezquita and freshman Dylan Woodward and are now 14-0 on the season, the best start in school history. Crouse led the way for Stevens, going a perfect 11-0 at epee.

Stevens defeated Rowan University, Lafayette College, Rutgers University, Cornell University, The College of New Jersey and Drew University on the day while also grabbing a pair of flawless 27-0 victories over Rowan and Rutgers. The Ducks now have four 27-0 dual match victories in the last three seasons.

On the day, the Ducks were able to score at least 24 points in five of the six matches with the closest contest being a 16-11 win over Drew.

Overall, the epee squad led the way for Stevens going 51-3 while the sabre squad produced a 49-5 record and the foil team went 44-10.

Rowan (Win 27-0) Lafayette (25-2)
  • Much like against Rowan, Crouse, Faubert and Pan gave the Ducks a pair of victories at epee and got one win each from Andrew Bauman, James Morris and Toltus for a perfect 9-0 record.
  • Stevens went 7-2 at foil in the contest thanks to three wins apiece from Nick Beja and Logan Rechler while Noah Ehrlich added one more.
  • Woodward had three wins, Rice and Juan Amezquita produced two and Pablo Amezquita and Jacobson added one each in a perfect 9-0 match at sabre.
Rutgers (27-0)
  • The second perfect score of the day for the Ducks came against the Scarlet Knights.
  • Nine different players, including Ian Blakeslee, Bauman and Corridon, registered a victory at epee for the Ducks in the match.
  • Ean Weiss, Grzeda and Yu picked up two victories each at foil while Beja, Ehrlich and Rechler added one apiece.
  • Eric Sang delivered his first two wins of the day along with Jacobson at foil to go along with one victory each from the Amezquita brothers, Chris Kurtz, Rice and Woodward.
Cornell (Win 24-3)
  • The Ducks got two wins each by Crouse, Faubert and Pan and another from Gana in an 8-1 win at epee.
  • Beja and Ehrlich went 2-0 while Grzeda, Rechler and Yu produced one each to help Stevens win 7-2 at foil.
  • At sabre, the Ducks were a perfect 9-0 thanks to three wins by Woodward, two each from Rice and Jacobson and one from both Juan and Pablo Amezquita.
TCNJ (Win 25-2)
  • Just like against Rutgers, all nine epee fencers for the Ducks picked up a win against the Lions in a 9-0 victory.
  • Stevens was also a perfect 9-0 at foil with two wins from Weiss, Yu and Grzeda to go along with one each from Rechler, Ehrlich and Beja.
  • After starting the day a perfect 36-0, the sabre squad finally lost their first contest of the day against TCNJ, but still grabbed a 7-2 victory in the weapon thanks to two wins by Sang and one apiece by Woodward, Kurtz, Jacobson and the Amezquita brothers.
Drew (Win 16-11)
  • In the closest contest of the day for the Ducks, the epee squad produced a 7-2 victory fueled by three wins from Crouse and two each from Faubert and Pan.
  • Beja, Ehrlich and Rechler all produced a victory in a 3-6 defeat, the lone loss at any weapon on the day for Stevens.
  • The sabre team wrapped up the meet with a 6-3 win with two wins apiece from Juan Amezquita, Rice and Woodward.
