Men’s Fencing Stays Undefeated With 6-0 Day in Drew Holiday Invitational

Ducks Extend Their Winning Streak to Program-Record 20 Matches

MADISON, N.J. (November 24, 2019) – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's fencing team continued its torrid start to the season with a perfect 6-0 record in the Drew Holiday Invitational Sunday.

The Ducks are now 20-0 on the season to continue the best start in program history. This is also the longest winning streak in program history, besting the previous record of 13 straight set in 2018.

In total, Stevens outscored its opponents 147-15 in the six contests as the foil squad went 50-4, sabre finished 49-5 and epee produced a 48-6 record.

Individually, Ryan McLaughlin and Ean Weiss led the way at foil with 10 wins apiece while Wolfe Crouse and Juan Amezquita produced 8-0 and 9-0 records at epee and sabre, respectively, to lead the way for the Ducks.

Stevens has now scored at least 23 points in each of their last 11 bouts as they knocked off Clemson University, Yeshiva University, Hunter College, Denison University, the University of Florida and Army-West Point on the day.

Clemson University (Win 24-3)
  • The Ducks epee squad started the day with a perfect 9-0 record against the Tigers as all nine epeeist grabbed one win in the dual.
  • The foil weapon also went 9-0 against Clemson thanks to two wins each from McLaughlin, Weiss and Justin Yu as well as one victory apiece by Nick Beja, Noah Ehrlich and Logan Rechler.
  • Juan Amezquita won three bouts, Vaughn Rice won two and Dylan Woodward won one to help the sabre squad go 6-3.
Yeshiva University (Win 26-1) Hunter College (Win 23-4)
  • Gana and Toltus had two wins while four others produced one win apiece to give the Ducks an 8-1 victory at epee.
  • At foil, the Ducks were led by Beja who finished 3-0 while Ehrlich, Grzeda, Rechler and Weiss added one apiece for a 7-2 record.
  • Pablo Amezquita and Sang went 3-0 against the Hawks and Jacobson produced a pair of victories for an 8-1 record at sabre.
University of Florida (Win 27-0)
  • It was the third perfect 27-0 record in a bout this season for the Ducks.
  • At epee, Ian Blakeslee and Morris went 2-0 while Andrew Baumann, Crouse, Faubert, Gana and Pan had one each.
  • Grzeda and McLaughlin produced 3-0 records while Weiss and Yu went 2-0 and 1-0, respectively at foil.
  • Pablo Amezquita, Jacobson and Sang all had two victories and three others picked up one apiece to close out the perfect bout for Stevens.
Denison University (Win 23-4)
  • Faubert registered a pair of wins and five other Ducks produced one each at epee to go 7-2 at the weapon.
  • Yu went a perfect 3-0 while Weiss and McLaughlin finished 2-1 at foil for a 7-2 record.
  • At sabre, Pablo Amezquita, Jacobson and Kurtz went 2-0 in what was a perfect 9-0 bout for the Ducks.
Army-West Point (Win 24-3)
  • Crouse went 2-0 for the second time on the day and Baumann, Blakeslee, Faubert, Gana and Toltus grabbed their last victories of the invitational as the epee weapon went 7-2 against the Black Knights.
  • Rechler and Ehrlich went 3-0, Beja added two victories and Grzeda picked up another to help Stevens go 9-0 for the fourth time on the day at foil.
  • Juan Amezquita and Woodward picked up 3-0 records while Rice went 2-1 at sabre for an 8-1 close to the day.

  • Following the Alumni Meet on Dec. 7, the Ducks will return to action Saturday, Jan. 18 in the West Point Invitational in West Point, N.Y.
  • Stevens is set to take on Drew, Detroit Mercy University and Cleveland State University in the meet.
