St. Lawrence defeats Women's Tennis

Alexis Fuda posted a comeback win to remain unbeaten on the year

Box Score ORLANDO, FLA. (March 20, 2019) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's tennis team took on St. Lawrence University on Wednesday in their third match of their Spring Break trip. The Saints handed the Ducks their third consecutive loss by a score of 7-2 and moved their record to 4-3, Stevens drops to 10-4. "Today was another hard-fought battle for the Lady Ducks. The girls continue to battle for every point, which led to three come from behind three set singles matches and a match tiebreak win for freshman Alexis Fuda," said Head Assistant Coach Arik Zeevy. "It was also great to see our doubles play continue to improve as we progress through the Spring season."

The Saints got out to a quick start by taking the first two double flights and jumping out to a 2-0 lead. Freshman Alexis Fuda and sophomore Chelsea Braithwaite were victorious in the third doubles flight to secure the first point for the Ducks. The duo was in a tight battle but kept their composure and were able to secure the 8-7 win.

The Ducks were not able to swing the momentum in their favor during the single flights, but Alexis Fuda was able to continue her winning ways on the court. The Spring Lake, N.J. native dropped the first set of the No. 4 singles flight 4-6 but was determined to mount a comeback. The freshman phenom took the next set 6-4 to force a winner take all third set. Fuda would not be denied as she took the third set 7-6 to complete the comeback and secure the second team point of the match. St. Lawrence proved to be to much as they took the other five single flights to close out the match.
