Men's Tennis draws UMass-Boston in NCAA First Round

Men's Tennis will travel to Amherst for opening round of NCAA's

HOBOKEN, N.J. (May 7, 2019) – No. 32 Stevens Institute of Technology Men's Tennis will face University of Massachusetts Boston in the First Round of the 2019 NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Championship, the NCAA announced on Monday.

Stevens returns to the NCAA Championship for the tenth straight year after capturing a tenth Empire 8 Conference Championship by blanking St. John Fisher and Houghton College this past weekend. This was the Ducks 11th overall Empire 8 Championship and are currently on an eight-match winning streak which started back on April 14th with a 5-3 win against Hobart.

UMass-Boston (13-5) is making its fourth trip to the NCAA Tournament and first since 2017. The Beacons defeated Salem State University 5-0 on May 4 to win the program's fourth Little East Conference title. 

Stevens and UMass-Boston will play on Friday, May 10 at a time yet to be determined as part of the regional hosted by No. 4 Amherst College. The winner of the Stevens-UMass-Boston match will advance to take on No. 15 University of Mary Washington on Saturday. 

"I'm excited to head back to Amherst for the NCAA tournament. We made program history back in 2013 when we beat Mary Washington which advanced us to the round of 16," commented head coach Steve Gachko. "I look forward to the possibility of facing them in the second round. It's been quite the journey this season with these young guys and we will be ready to face UMass-Boston on Friday."

Wilkes University (14-6) and Nichols College (15-6) meet in the other Friday's other first-round pairing.
