Women's Tennis faces St. Joseph's in NCAA First Round

Women's Tennis will take on the Skyline Champ in first ever NCAA appearance

HOBOKEN, N.J. (May 7, 2019) – Stevens Institute of Technology Women's Tennis will take on Saint Joseph's College – Long Island in the First Round of the 2019 NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championship, the NCAA announced on Monday.

Stevens will be making their first appearance in the NCAA Championships after capturing their first Empire 8 Conference Championship back on October 13th. The Ducks defeated 2017 Empire 8 Champions Nazareth College in an instant classic 5-4. Stevens currently sits at 10-7 on the year and went an impressive 7-1 in conference play this past fall.

St. Joseph's (10-4) is also making their first trip to the NCAA Tournament after winning the Skyline Conference this past fall. The Golden Eagles defeated SUNY-Purchase 5-1 on October 20 and claimed the program's first ever Skyline Conference Championship

A date and time for Stevens and St. Joe's first round match up has yet to be determined. The winner of the Stevens-St. Joe's match will advance to take on No. 9 Tufts University. No. 3 Middlebury College is the regional host for three rounds of the NCAA Championships, winner of the regional advances to the Elite Eight.

Our ladies are excited to compete in our first ever NCAA tournament in program history up in Middlebury, Vermont," expressed head coach Steve Gachko. "I'm confident this will be a tremendous experience for the continued development of our team and show us where we will strive to be at the end of each year moving forward."

Moravian College (19-1) and Cairn University (10-4) meet in the other first-round pairing of this NCAA Regional.
