MATTHEWS, N.C. (October 28, 2020)  – Stevens Institute of Technology graduate student Spencer Cook was named a Division III Preseason All-American by the Basketball Times, the publication announced as part of its annual Preseason Top-20 Rankings and All-America teams.

Cook was one of 24 student-athletes selected to the prestigious list and joined Arcadia University's Da'Kquan Davis as the lone representatives from the Middle Atlantic Conference.

"Spencer continues to work hard looking to improve on his terrific season from a year ago," said head coach Bobby Hurley. "His drive to improve upon last season individually and as a team, makes us all excited to get back on the court."

The preseason recognition is the latest honor for Cook, who continues to add to his already impressive collection of awards and accolades. The high-scoring guard became the Ducks' first All-American in March, when he was named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches' Third Team. Cook was also recognized as an All-Region player by both the NABC and D3Hoops.com, in addition to becoming the fourth first-team All-Met honoree in program history.

Equally strong in the classroom, Cook earned Third Team Academic All-America recognition, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America and rounded out his awards with an Academic All-MAC selection and garnering a spot in the NABC;s Honors Court. His Academic All-America nod was just the third in program history and the first since 1978.

The first Jostens Trophy finalist in school history, Cook averaged a career-best 19.3 points per game one season ago and shot a clean and crisp fifty percent from behind the arc (76 for 152) en route to becoming Division III's 219-20 3-point shooting statistical champion. Cook reached double figures in 27 of his 28 games and averaged 27 points and seven boards in the MAC Freedom Tournament to pilot the Ducks' to their first-ever conference championship and the third NCAA appearance in program history. He averaged a career-best 5.3 rebounds per game and also set new career marks in assists, steals and blocks and was named MAC Freedom Player of the Year for his efforts. Cook also landed on the All-MAC Freedom First Team, picked up Most Valuable Player honors of the MAC Freedom Tournament and was named to the All-Tournament Team of the inaugural Stevens Men's Basketball Holiday Tournament.

Over his distinguished career, Cook has totaled 1,316 career points, which ranks seventh in program history, sitting 432 points away from becoming the Ducks' all-time leading scorer for a program that dates back to 1916. He currently leads all Ducks in career 3-point shooting percentage and also ranks among the program's all-time top 10 in points per game, free throws and free throw percentage and 3-point field goals.
