GREENWOOD, Ind. (March 12, 2020)  – Stevens Institute of Technology men's basketball senior Spencer Cook was named a Third Team Academic All-American, the College Sports Information Directors of America announced. He becomes just the third player in program history to earn the prestigious national distinction and the first since Hall of Fame alumnus Tom Palilonis was selected to the organization's second team in 1978. Fellow Hall of Famer Tom McInerney was Stevens' first-ever Academic All-American in 1974. He is the fifth Stevens student-athlete to earn the honor this academic year.

"I am very proud of Spencer being named a Third Team Academic All-American," said head coach Bobby Hurley. "This achievement showcases just how hard he works in both the classroom and on the court. Spencer is a true student-athlete and well deserving of this [recognition]."

Cook led the team in scoring with a career-high 19.2 points per game. The fourth-year guard recently moved into seventh place on the program's all-time career scoring list with 1,316 points. His 540 points this season are the fourth-most in any single season in program history. Cook has posted 11 games with at least 20 points and is shooting an impressive 50.1 percent from the floor, a figure that includes a 50% shooting percentage from behind the arc. Cook ranks second in the country in 3-point shooting percentage.

Additionally, the Washington Township, New Jersey native has set career-bests in rebounds (147), assists (73), steals (35) and blocks (8). Cook recorded his first career double-double of the year against then-No. 4 Middlebury on Dec. 8 and poured in 32 points in the MAC Freedom Championship en route to earning the conference tournament's Most Valuable Player honor. He was named MAC Freedom Player of the Year on Feb. 27 to become just the second player in program history to earn a conference Player of the Year accolade.

In the classroom, Cook has achieved 3.84 grade-point average as a finance major, with a minor in quantitative finance. Off the court, Cook has interned as an institutional equity sales and trading summer analyst for Morgan Stanley and in internal auditing for the Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation. Additionally, Cook served as the head of fund initiatives for the Stevens Student-Managed Investment Fund, while also earning his New York Real Estate License.

Cook is the 54th student-athlete in Middle Atlantic Conference history to earn Academic All-America honors and the first since the 2017-18 season. The Washington Township native is the first MAC Freedom men's basketball player to receive the distinction since 2016-17.
