HOBOKEN, N.J. (January 26, 2021) – Stevens Institute of Technology Director of Athletics
Russell Rogers has removed the interim tag and officially named
Arik Zeevy as Head Women's Tennis Coach, it was announced Tuesday.
Zeevy received the interim head coach moniker from Rogers last spring, marking the first time the women's program was under the leadership of a full-time, sport-specific, head coach.
"I am thrilled to extend this promotion to Arik!" Rogers said. "Splitting our men and women's tennis programs with a permanent head coach for each team is an important step in maximizing all aspects of the programs from recruiting to on-court coaching and player development. Most importantly, though, the move enhances the experience of our outstanding men and women's tennis student-athletes!"
Zeevy returned to Castle Point in 2018 for his second stint as an assistant coach for both the men's and women's tennis programs.
"I would like to thank
Russell Rogers for his continued support and trust," Zeevy said. "It is hard to believe one year has passed since being named Interim Head Women's Coach. It has been an unforgettable twelve months and I feel fortunate to have gone through it with such a special group."
"I continue to be impressed with this team's ability to handle the cards dealt to them and stay focused on what they can control; an average team GPA of 3.93 over the past two semesters speaks for itself," he continued. "I couldn't be more optimistic about the future of Stevens Women's Tennis, but to be honest, right now I just can't wait to celebrate seeing our team back together in person as soon as possible."
Zeevy first became a full-time assistant coach for the Stevens men's and women's tennis programs after an illustrious playing career at Castle Point. As a student-athlete, Zeevy led the Ducks to three Empire 8 Conference Championships and three NCAA Tournament appearances. Both his career singles (68) and doubles (66) win totals still rank among the all-time program leaders. A four-time first-team All-Empire 8 Conference selection in singles, Zeevy also collected three all-conference selections in doubles and was a multi-time participant in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) regional championship tournament in both singles and doubles.
After four years of serving as an assistant coach at his alma mater after graduation, that included four straight Empire 8 Men's Tennis titles and recognition as the 2015-16 ITA National Assistant Coach of the Year for men's tennis, Zeevy assumed his first head coaching position in 2016, when he was named Head Women's Tennis Coach at Haverford College. Zeevy was instrumental in helping the Fords improve both at the regional and conference levels during his two-year stint in Pennsylvania.
"Arik has given so much to Stevens Tennis; first as a student-athlete, as an assistant coach, and now as our head coach," Rogers commented. "His passion for Stevens is unmatched and I look forward to supporting Arik in our collective effort to build on the outstanding culture that already exists with the women's tennis program."
More information about the women's tennis season will be released as it becomes available.
