ANNVILLE, Pa. (Oct. 11, 2021) – After a stellar opening weekend in the pool, the Stevens Institute of Technology men's and women's swim teams swept the Middle Atlantic Conference Men's and Women's Swimmer of the Week awards as senior
Michael Shusta earned the accolade on the men's side and first-year
Melissa Misurelli won the award for the women.
Both student-athletes picked up the honor for the first time in their collegiate careers after turning in solid performances in the season-opening meet at the Widener Relay Meet Saturday. Shusta helped lead the Duck men to a pair of wins over Widener and Stevenson University while Misurelli took the women's team to a win over Stevenson.
"Mike is one of our strongest returning swimmers and after battling some early season issues, it was nice to see him start to return to form." Head
Adam Schneider said. "Melissa is one of the hardest workers on the team and watching her excel this weekend was no surprise to me. I expected more meets like that from her in the future."
Shusta earned a pair of victories and a runner-up finish for Stevens in the meet.
As a member of the 150-breaststroke relay team, Shusta teamed up with two other student-athletes for a final time of 1:28.24 to take gold. He was then a member of the 500-freestyle relay team that touched in first place in a time of 4:26.22. Finally, Shusta joined the 200-freestyle relay team that earned a second-place finish in 1:31.33.

She started the meet with a win in the 1500-freestyle relay, helping the Ducks touch in a final time of 17:34.96.
