Ewing, N.J. – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's swim team sits in second place after the opening day at the TCNJ Invitational on Friday.
The Ducks, who recorded 186 points, trail host TCNJ (425 point). Merchant Marine is third with 170 points, as Cortland is fourth with 156.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The men opened their evening in the 200 freestyle relay, where the A squad of
Leo Timmermann, Sebastien Nappi,
Gailen Davis, and
Will Stibor placed sixth in 1:26.92. The B relay finished seventh in 1:27.23, while the C and D relays stopped the clock in 1:30.04 and 1:30.12.
Stevens earned four B-final scoring swims in the 500 free. First-year
Cooper Moffatt led with a 4:46.77 for 10th overall.
Patrick Cortelli (4:51.78),
Andrew Gaba (4:55.65), and
Will Hyde (4:56.00) followed closely. In the 200 IM A final, senior
Angel Velasquez represented the Ducks with a seventh-place 1:57.55. The B final saw
Lukas Mikulenas take 13th overall in 2:00.58, while teammates
Andrew Thau,
Jason Scheckner, and
Justin Lee provided additional efforts in prelims.
The Ducks' strongest event on the men's side was the 50 free, where two swimmers reached the A final. Timmermann placed fifth in 21.39 and Stibor took sixth in 21.73. The B final produced a wave of scoring, as Davis (21.96), Bove (22.18), Nappi (22.21), Easton (22.31), and Beaney (22.55) all finished in the top 16.
Stevens closed the night with four scoring relays in the 400 medley relay. The A team of
Ethan Emerton, Velasquez, Bove, and Stibor earned fifth in 3:27.56. The B squad placed eighth in 3:36.30, the C team took 10th in 3:41.25, and the D relay finished 12th in 3:42.19.
