Ewing, N.J. – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's swim team continues to sit in the second place after the second day of the TCNJ Invitational on Saturday.
The Ducks have totaled 469 points, trailing host TCNJ (953). Merchant Marine is third with 450 points, while Cortland is fourth with 387.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Ducks started their evening with the 200 medley relay, where the A squad of
Angel Velasquez,
Lukas Mikulenas, Amadeo Bove, and
Will Stibor placed fourth in 1:33.74. Stevens' C relay team of Leo Timmerman,
Matthew Beaney,
Justin Lee, and
Kyle Phillips finished fifth in 1:36.15. In the 400 IM, Stevens placed two swimmers in the A final.
Ethan Emerton took fifth in 4:16.00, while first-year
Cooper Moffatt finished seventh in 4:14.97. In the B final,
Will Hyde won the heat with a 4:17.56, finishing ninth overall, and
Kerem Dogruer placed 12th in 4:37.33. Stevens then earned points in the 100 butterfly A final, where Bove placed seventh in 51.26.
Kyle Phillips added a B-final performance of 53.68.
In the 200 freestyle, first-year Sebastien Nappi represented Stevens in the A final, placing eighth in 1:47.75. The B final produced major scoring for the Ducks, with
Niall Easton (1:47.08),
Patrick Cortelli (1:47.87),
Will Stibor (1:48.61), and
Bryan Laverty (1:49.25) all finishing among the top 16. The 100 breaststroke was one of the Ducks' best events of the night. Velasquez earned a runner-up finish in the A final with a 57.19, and Mikulenas placed fourth in 57.70. Stevens took four of the top eight spots in the B final as well, with Beaney (1:00.24),
Gailen Davis (1:00.62),
James Johnson (1:00.47), and
Jason Scheckner (1:03.32) all contributing key points.
In the 100 backstroke A final,
Ethan Emerton placed fifth with a 53.44.
Leo Timmermann and
Daniel Shemetov scored from the B final, finishing in 55.46 and 56.88. The Ducks closed the night with the 800 freestyle relay, earning third overall in 7:15.35 behind the team of Bove, Cortelli, Easton, and Nappi.
