Ewing, N.J. – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's swim team placed third at the TCNJ Invitational that wrapped up on Sunday afternoon.
Stevens ended the three-day event with 663 points, trailing TCNJ (1,429) and Merchant
Marine (726). Cortland took fourth with 563 points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The men opened their night in the 1650 free, where three Ducks reached the scoring heats.
Andrew Gaba placed 13th overall in 17:01.73,
Kyle Phillips followed in 14th with a 17:23.97, and
Kerem Dogruer added 17th in 17:43.53. In the 200 backstroke A final, sophomore
Ethan Emerton delivered a third-place finish in 1:54.12. Stevens placed two more swimmers in the B final, with
Jonah Beth finishing 13th overall at 2:02.01 and first-year
Andrew Thau 15th in 2:06.92.
Stevens earned a podium finish in the 100 free A final, where senior
Will Stibor placed third in 46.99. The Ducks added three more scoring swims from the B final, as Sebastien Nappi placed 10th overall (48.70),
Niall Easton finished 12th (48.85), and
Bryan Laverty took 14th (50.20).
Andy Kolecki rounded out the group in 15th at 49.56. The Ducks posted one of their strongest events of the session in the 200 breaststroke.
Angel Velasquez placed third in the A final with a 2:12.29, while first-year
Cooper Moffatt and
Lukas Mikulenas tied for fifth in 2:12.49 and 2:10.90, respectively. In the B final,
James Johnson earned ninth overall in 2:17.45, with
Jason Scheckner taking 12th in 2:20.23.
In the 200 butterfly, Stevens entered four swimmers into the B final. Amadeo Bove led with a ninth-place overall finish in 1:57.87.
Will Hyde (14th, 2:01.45),
Patrick Cortelli (15th, 2:01.15), and
Joe Sparshott (16th, 2:01.36) rounded out the scoring group. The meet concluded with a strong showing in the 400 free relay. The A relay of
Leo Timmermann, Velasquez, Bove, and Stibor took third overall in 3:10.13. The B relay placed fifth in 3:15.32, consisting of Moffatt, Nappi, Easton, and Phillips.
