Hoboken, N.J. – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's swim team fell to the United States Merchant Marine Academy 171-91 on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Stevens began with a second-place finish in the 200 medley relay behind the quartet of
Angel Velasquez,
Lukas Mikulenas,
Deo Bove, and
Will Stibor, who touched in 1:36.87. The C relay of Sebastien Nappi,
Matthew Beaney,
Justin Lee, and
Gailen Davis followed in 1:40.60, while the B relay of
Ethan Emerton,
Leo Timmermann,
Cooper Moffatt, and
Kyle Phillips posted a 1:41.21.
Moffatt then opened individual racing by finishing second in the 1000 freestyle in 10:18.75, with
Andrew Gaba placing fifth in 10:27.90 and
Yusuf Tokuz sixth in 10:47.01. Nappi led the Ducks in the 200 freestyle with a second-place 1:48.93, while
Patrick Cortelli recorded a 1:52.70 and
Niall Easton a 1:53.68. Emerton finished second in the 100 backstroke in 54.05, followed by Timmermann in 57.04 and
Daniel Shemetov in 59.89. Velasquez and Mikulenas produced strong efforts in the 100 breaststroke with times of 59.55 and 1:00.10, and
Jason Scheckner added a 1:03.45.
In the 200 butterfly,
Joe Sparshott finished second in 2:02.90 with Phillips close behind in 2:07.23 and
Will Hyde at 2:07.27. Stibor swam to second in the 50 freestyle in 22.23, with Davis posting a 22.52, Beaney a 22.97, and
Robert Collazzo a 23.50. Stibor added another runner-up finish in the 100 freestyle in 48.77, supported by
Andy Kolecki in 50.29,
Bryan Laverty in 50.93, Easton in 50.94, and
Eli Reinhold in 51.83.
Emerton continued his strong day with a win in the 200 backstroke in 1:57.52, joined by Bove in 2:00.90 and
Jonah Beth in 2:06.21. Mikulenas, Velasquez, and
James Johnson all scored in the 200 breaststroke with times of 2:13.89, 2:15.69, and 2:21.05. Nappi returned to win the 500 freestyle in 4:55.53, with Cortelli finishing in 4:59.49 and
Kerem Dogruer in 5:14.78.
Bove recorded a 52.82 in the 100 butterfly, while Lee finished in 55.94 and Sparshott in 56.05. In the 200 IM, Moffatt led Stevens with a 2:04.78, followed by
Andrew Thau in 2:09.00 and Phillips in 2:11.25. Stevens closed the meet with three 400 freestyle relays as Nappi, Velasquez, Bove, and Stibor placed second in 3:16.38; Easton, Emerton, Kolecki, and Phillips followed in 3:24.73; and Laverty, Collazzo, Tokuz, and Reinhold finished in 3:25.77.
