Kolenovic, Rodgers and von Autenried Lead Men’s Swimming to Home Victory over Drew

Ducks win 10 of 14 total events in the meet

HOBOKEN, N.J. (Nov. 5, 2021) – Led by two individual wins apiece from junior Ali Kolenovic, first-year Liam Rodgers and graduate student Kurt von Autenried, the Stevens Institute of Technology men's swimming team earned a 164-99 win over Drew University Saturday at the DeBaun Aquatic Center.

In the first home dual meet in 643 days, the Ducks won 10 of the 14 total events in the meet including both relays to improve to 3-1 on the season while dropping the Rangers' record to 2-2.

In addition to the multiple victories from the trio, Stevens also got individual wins by first-year Edward Platanov and sophomore Darius Truong and finished in first or second in 13 of the 14 races.

How it Happened
  • The 200-medley relay team started the dual meet with a first-place time of 1:36.33 to give the Ducks an early lead they did not relinquish.
  • First-years Thomas Haemmerle and Zack Chirico produced a 2-3 finish in the 1,000-free with times of 10:14.02 and 10:42.09, respectively.
  • Kolenovic gave the Ducks their first individual win of the night in the 200-free with a final time of 1:47.14.
  • Next, Truong touched in a final time of 54.33 in the 100-back to earn silver in the event.
  • Stevens finished 1-2 in the 100-breast as Rodgers grabbed gold with a time of 1:03.14 and sophomore Phong Tran earned silver just behind him in 1:03.29.
  • In the 200-fly, the Ducks got a solid time of 1:58.69 from Platanov for a second-place finish.
  • The lead for Stevens began to swell in the next four races as the Ducks produced four straight victories starting with a 1-2-3 finish in the 50-free. von Autenried led the way in first with a time of 21.23, senior Daniel Hold grabbed second in 22.67 and first-year Cade Cermak took third in 22.69.
  • The Ducks swept the podium once again in the 100-free as Platanov swam a time of 48.65, sophomore Elijah Durantine touched in 49.46 and senior Michael Shusta finished in 49.82 to finish in first, second and third, respectively.
  • The second win of the night for Kolenovic came in the 200-back as he touched in a time of 1:56.21.
  • Rodgers followed that up with his second first-place finish with a time of 2:16.53 in the 200-breast.
  • Stevens got a third-place finish in the 500-free from Haemmerle with a time of 5:05.20.
  • The 100-fly saw von Autenried grab his second gold medal in the competition after touching in 51.54.
  • The final individual event in the pool was the 200-IM that saw Truong's time of 1:58.27 take first place.
  • The 200-free relay closed out the night as the Ducks picked up yet another victory thanks to a time of 1:27.07.
