NEW YORK, N.Y. (January 14, 2022)  – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's and women's swimming teams competed with New York University in a two-day, split-location dual meet to kick off the 2022 portion of the schedule.

The event began with 18 events Thursday at the DeBaun Aquatic Center and closed Friday with 16 events at NYU's Palladium Athletic Facility Natatorium.

NYU came out ahead in both duals, winning the men's dual 216-91 and defeating the Ducks 215-80 on the women's side. Over the 36 races, the Ducks totaled 16 second place and 17 third-place finishes. First-year Edward Platonov and graduate student Kurt von Autenried each posted one second and one third-place finish on the men's side, while first-years Emily Lynch and Sophie Patz, along with senior Madie DeJong each posted multiple top-three finishes on the women's side.

For head coach Adam Schneider, the two-day event wasn't just about the final results, but rather, continuing to improve his team's performance with the conference championship meet less than a month away.

"As the meet progressed, we started to swim more and more of our own races and not let NYU affect our goals and strategies," the first-year head coach said. "Even though we're in the middle of some of our toughest training of the year, everyone's racing was full of energy and we look forward to finishing out our three days of racing tomorrow at Messiah."

von Autenried posted top-three finishes in a pair of freestyle races. The Princeton Junction, New Jersey native touched the wall in the 100 Free in 47.58 seconds to place second and then in the 50 Free, von Autenried reached the finish in 21.53 seconds to finish third.

Platonov turned in a season best in the 500 Free, reaching the finish in 4:54.55, which ranks as the fourth-fastest time in the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC). The Milford, Connecticut native then placed third in the 100 Free with a time of 48.76 seconds.

DeJong turned in season-best times in both the 50 Free and 200 Fly events. The Rochester, Minnesota native finished second in the 200 Fly with a time of 2:22.16, while placing third in the 50 Free with a time of 26.12 seconds. DeJong's time in the 200 Fly is the ninth-fastest in the MAC to date.

Lynch added four points to the team total with a second-place finish in the 500 Free. The Glassboro, New Jersey native reached the wall in 6:00.41. Additionally, Lynch placed third in the 100 Free with a time of 1:0063.

Patz was the final Duck to earn multiple top-three finishes, finishing second in the 200 Back (2:17.71) and third in the 400-yard individual medley (5:04.07).

Also of note, sophomore Phong Tran turned in the fifth-fastest 400-yard IM time, reaching the finish in 4:25.01. The Ducks' 400 -yard medley relay team of junior Ali Kolenovic, first-year Liam Rodgers, Truong and Platonov posted the fourth-fastest 400-yard medley relay time in the MAC, completing the race in 3:37.40
