The Basics
  • The lead: The Stevens Institute of Technology golf team posted a 17-stroke improvement Sunday to finish in a tie for eighth place at the Mason-Dixon Collegiate Classic, hosted by McDaniel College.
  • Score: Stevens (312-295=607) - tied for eighth place out of 21 teams.
  • Location: Waynesboro Country Club - Waynesboro, Pa. (Par 72 - 6,596 yards)
  • Short Story: After finishing 11th through the opening 18 holes, the Ducks posted one of the best rounds in the field Sunday, posting a 295 to trim 17 strokes off their opening-round score and climb three places in the standings - which was the second-greatest movement among any of the teams in the field. Facing temperatures in the low 50's with rainy and windy conditions on both days of competition, the Ducks' 295 Sunday was the fifth-best single-round score of any team in the field. Senior Miles Philion was the Ducks' top finisher, carding a 148 (75-73) to finish 4-over and tie for 12th place. The Delhi, New York native carded six birdies for the tournament, including three on the back nine Sunday to finish 1-under over the final nine holes.
  • The Leaderboard: Gettysburg won the team title with a two-day score of 589, finishing four strokes ahead of Franklin & Marshall and McDaniel. The Ducks finished tied with Catholic, 18 strokes off the pace. On the individual side, McDaniel's Ryan McGarry finished 3-under for the tournament as the under player to finish under par. McGarry finished three strokes ahead of F&M's Chris Dorey, who finished even-par for the tournament.

The Finishes
  • Senior Eegan McDermott was the Ducks' second finisher, carding four birdies to finish plus-seven.
  • First-year Brock Dickson has the best single round of the Ducks' five-golfer contingent. The Barrington, Illinois native finished even-par Sunday, carding three birdies, shooting 36 on both the front and back nine. He finished 13-over for the tournament.
  • Junior Gus Vickers rebounded from a tough opening round to trim 13 strokes Sunday to move up 19 places in the standings. Vickers carded four birdies, including two on the back nine.
  • Sophomore Eduardo Terlaje was consistent in both rounds, carding a 78 both Saturday and Sunday to finish 12-over for the tournament.

From the Greens (Head Coach Charles Papendick)
  • "Very proud of our comeback today. Very excited about Brock shooting par and Gus' rebound. Miles and Eegan were steady as usual. We will hopefully build on today's round for our Atlanta trip, where we will hopefully play under better conditions."
