PRINCETON, N.J. (March 13, 2022)   – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's fencing team competed at the Mid-Atlantic/South Regionals Saturday, hosted by Princeton University at its history Jadwin Gymnasium. It was the first fencing regional since 2020.

The Ducks had three entrants at sabre, with senior Kiera Barnes finishing 15th overall and second among Division III student-athletes, while finishing ahead of 15 Division I competitors. Sophomore Alana Schmitt and first-year Arianna Daringa placed 22nd and 23rd, respectively, to complete the Ducks' contingent of competitors in the weapon .

Junior Claire McNeill was the Ducks' entrant in epee, finishing 28th, but placed third among Division III student-athletes, while placing ahead of four entrants from Division I institutions. UPenn's Vanessa Dib earned gold, while Princeton's Lola Constantino took silver. Temple's Naomi Ross claimed the bronze medal to round out the medalists.

Senior Kayleigh Kubit was the Ducks' representative in foil, placing 32nd. Princeton swept the medals, with Maia Weintraub winning gold, Tinney Mak winning silver and May Tieu claiming bronze.

The Mid-Atlantic/South region has seven spots allocated in every weapon (covering three weapons on the men's side and three on the women's) except for men's epee, where it has six. All six weapons (combined men's and women's) also have two national at-large spots each. Ultimately, qualification to the NCAA Championship meet will be based 40 percent on regular-season results and 60 percent on the finish at the NCAA regional. NCAA Championship qualifiers will be announced on Mar. 15.

A total of 36 competitors made up the field at epee and foil, while 35 entrants competed for the sabre medals.

Up Next: The Ducks will learn on any NCAA placements with the NCAA's official announcement on Mar. 15. The national championship meet will be held at the University of Notre Dame Mar. 24-27.
