WEEHAWKEN, N.J. (March 24, 2022) – The Stevens Institute of Technology softball team had its doubleheader with Ramapo College suspended Thursday in the bottom of the second inning of the opening contest with the score tied at three, due to poor field conditions following a night of heavy rain.

The teams have agreed to resume play from the point of interruption and complete both ends of the doubleheader.

Senior Meg Halloran was set to lead off the inning when play was halted after a lengthy discussion between the two head coaches and the two umpires.

The Ducks scored three times in the first off Mahogany Wheeler (4-2), capitalizing on three Ramapo errors. Sophomore Julia Baber walked and came around to score when Katie Rygiel fielded senior Lexi Gregule's bunt attempt and threw into the right-field corner, allowing both runners to score. The Ducks added a run four batters later when Rygiel threw away junior Olivia Warner's grounder, allowing sophomore Madison Kidd to score.

Ramapo plated three runs in the first against junior Erin Kreis (1-3), who settled down after a shaky start to retire three straight batters to end the inning. The right-hander worked a leadoff walk in the second to retire the Roadrunners on an inning-ending double play when Halloran snagged Carli Egan's liner and alertly fired to sophomore Jessica Guerrero at second to nab Anna Messina, who was unable to retreat back to the bag.

Up Next: Softball opens MAC Freedom play on Mar. 26 at Lycoming. It is believed to be the first meeting between the teams.
