GREENWOOD, Ind. (May 12, 2022) – Graduate student
Thomas Paulich of the Stevens Institute of Technology baseball team was named to the Division III Academic All-District Baseball Team, the College Sports Information Directors of America announced Thursday.
Paulich is the eight Duck in program history, and seventh under current head coach
Kristaps Aldins, to earn the prestigious distinction, which recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.
"Thomas will end his career as one of the accomplished baseball student-athletes we have had, both on and off the field," Aldins said. "He has been a standout in the classroom, combining his smarts with good old fashioned hard work. On the field, he is a rock, providing phenomenal production in the middle of the lineup with a knack for the clutch at-bat. We will miss Thomas greatly, but his impact on our program will be felt for years to come, a true testament to the teammate he is."
On the field, Paulich leads the Ducks, and ranks 26th in Division III, with a .440 batting average (62 for 141) with five homers and 33 RBI. The Glen Cove, New York native also has eight doubles and a triple and has stolen 10 bases in 12 attempts. Over his five seasons on Castle Point, Paulich has 177 career hits and 119 RBI. His batting average and slugging percentage have increased each year and his five home runs this season set a new career high. Paulich will finish his career among the program's all-time leaders in batting average, hits and RBI.
In the classroom, Paulich has earned a 3.73 cumulative grade-point average as a systems engineering major. He completed his undergraduate degree in industrial management with a 3.61 cumulative GPA. Paulich has interned with Arup and Mott MacDonald.
First-team Academic All-District honorees advance to the Academic All-America ballot, the results of which will be announced in the coming weeks. Stevens is located in Division III's Second District, which encompasses schools from Connecticut, Washington, D.C., Delaware, Maryland, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Vermont and West Virginia. There are a total of eight districts in Division III.
