Hoboken, N.J. – The Stevens Institute of Technology baseball team crushed a season-high six home runs and put multiple runs on the board in four innings in a 15-8 win Friday night from Dobbelaar Field.
Even before the game began, Stevens (24-13, 12-7) got good news when DeSales beat Lebanon Valley, clinching a MAC Freedom Tournament berth for the Ducks.
How It Happened
Sterling started the carousel with a one-out solo shot in the first and Fishbough went deep in the third ahead of a
Chip Krese triple + Sterling RBI single, putting the Ducks up 3-0.
FDU-Florham got in on the home run party in the fourth, tying the game with a three-run shot, but
Adam Barrington followed a
Tyler Wilke hit by pitch with another round-tripper in the bottom of the inning, putting the Ducks back on top, 5-3.
After the Devils got a run back in the top of the fifth, a Sterling single and
Griffin Zitko two-run shot in the bottom of the inning, gave the Ducks another three-run cushion, 7-4, which grew substantially in the sixth.
Walks to
Vinnie Stigliano and Sterling bookending a Krese single loaded the bases for Zitko who promptly unloaded them, breaking the game open with a grand slam. After
Garret Wolf reached on a fielding error, Edward "E.J." Balewitz Jr. made it 13-4 with another no-doubt shot to right-center. After Barrington singled and Fishbough doubled, Stigliano singled in Fishbough and pinch-runner
Ethan Simpson, capping the eight-run outburst, putting the Ducks up 15-4.
The Devils scored four times in the seventh, but drew no closer, as the Ducks improved to 16-2 against their in-state conference rival in the last 18 meetings.
