The Basics

  • The Lead: Senior Eegan McDermott finished first out of 73 competitors to lead the Stevens Institute of Technology golf team to a first-place finish Thursday at the Knights Invitational hosted by Arcadia University. The win was McDermott's first outright career victory.
  • Score: Stevens (297) – First place out of 13 teams
  • Location: Makefield Highlands Golf Club – Yardley, Pa. (Par 72 – 6,513 yards)
  • Short Story: McDermott fired an impressive even-par 72 which was the only round even or under par for the day. He beat fellow teammate junior Gus Vickers by one stroke after Vickers bogeyed the par four 18th. McDermott carded four birdies on the day and started the day 2-under after five holes. The East Brunswick, New Jersey native also recorded back-to-back birdies on 15 and 16 which got him back to 1-under after falling to 1-over. The senior finished 1-under on par 5's.
  • The Leaderboard: Stevens also claimed the team title as they finished with a score of 297 (+9),which was 16 strokes better than Eastern, who finished in second place. The team victory is the first of the Spring season for the Ducks and the first since September 19, 2022, when they won the FDU Fall Invitational. It is also the 14th win at Stevens for head coach Charles Papendick. The total score of 297 was the lowest of the season for the team and lowest since they shot 287 in the second round of the MAC Championships last season.

The Finishes

  • Vickers finished in second place after shooting a 1-over 73. The junior maintained a one stroke lead after 16 holes played, but finished bogey-bogey to drop to second place. Vickers matched McDermott with four birdies.
  • First-year Brock Dickson finished T-3rd as he competed as an individual in the event. He shot a 2-over 74. Dickson got off to a hot start as he shot a 1-under 35 on the front nine but was plagued by bogeys on the final holes which dropped him a few spots. The Barrington, Illinois native also carded four birdies on the day.
  • First-year Austin Liao carded one of two eagles on the day for the Ducks as he scored a three on the par-five 9th. Liao was in first place after the front nine, recording a tournament low 2-under. He finished the day 3-over, totaling 75 strokes and finishing T-6th.
  • Sophomore Will Fulton also competed as an individual but struggled early on as he was 4-over after 11 holes. He jump started his day with an eagle on the par-five 12th. The Flanders, New Jersey native carded three birdies on the final four holes to finish T-6th after matching Liao's 3-over 75.
