EWING, N.J. (September 10, 2023) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's tennis team kicked off its 2023-24 campaign by earning three victories at The College of New Jersey Kickoff Tournament Sunday at the TCNJ Tennis Complex.
In an event that strictly featured doubles play, the junior tandem of
Emma Eguia and
Isabella Dona joined the sophomore tandem of
Fionna Flores and
Anya Sharma in posting victories on the day. Dona and Sharma also picked up their second victory of the year teaming together to earn a win in the second round robin.
Eguia and Dona had the Ducks' victory in the 'A' round, topping TCNJ's Mandy Fleischmann and Cassi McDermott 7-6. In the 'B' round, Dona and Sharma had a decisive 8-4 win over Cassi McDermott and Megan Pongrac. The four-point win was tied for the third-largest margin of victory across the 15 matches. Sharma and Flores posted the Ducks final victory of the day, topping Fleischmann and Pongrac 8-2, which was tied for the largest margin of victory in the event.
First-years

Julianna Gomez and
Lorena Piegas each made their collegiate debuts in the event. Interestingly, seven of the 15 matches were decided via tiebreaker.
