FREDERICKSBURG, Va. (September 23, 2023) – First-year Alix Dry and sophomore Stephanie Untermeyer each competed at ITA's for the Stevens Institute of Technology women's tennis team on Saturday, as the two picked up a doubles win together, while Dry won one singles match to highlight the day.
In the morning, the duo took on Grace Lorenz and Riho Iijima from Washington & Lee in doubles. Dry and Untermeyer were able to take the Washington & Lee pair down by a score of 8-5. The win marked the first time the women's tennis program has earned a win in the championship draw at this regional.
On the singles side, Dry would go on to win her first singles match of the day, taking down Jenny Lewis from Swarthmore 6-4 after she retired after the first set. It was an impressive feat from the first-year, who earned a singles win for the program for the second year in a row, as Untermeyer did the same last year as a first-year. She ended up bowing out of the tournament later on in the afternoon, falling to Sydney Langer from Johns Hopkins 1-6, 6-3.
Untermeyer ended up losing her singles match which was also against Lorenz from Washington & Lee. She would fall 0-6, 3-6.
Up Next: The duo of Dry and Untermeyer will again compete in doubles tomorrow morning at 8 a.m. in the round of 16, as they take on Ellie Esterowitz and Abbey Russano from Swarthmore.
