Men's Fencing Tallies 4-2 Mark At Vassar Invitational

Poughkeepsie, N.Y. – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's fencing team went 4-2 at the Vassar Invitational on Sunday.

The Ducks knocked off Long Island University (17-10), Vassar College (14-13), Cornell University (14-13), and Cleveland State University (15-12), but fell to Yale University (21-6) and Sacred Heart University (16-11).

HOW IT HAPPENED
Epee went a perfect 9-0 in the win over LIU. Noah Tumibay, Andrew Yurovchak, and Nicholas Smith each went unblemished, posting 3-0 marks. Dev Badlani also went 3-0 at foil in the victory over the Sharks, with David Trubetski going 2-1 and Nick Reznick adding a win. John Morreale and Chinli Ong added wins at sabre to help knock off the Sharks.

The sabre group went 6-3 against Cleveland State, with foil picking five victories. Tyler Kometani was a perfect 3-0 against the Vikings at sabre, as Ong added two wins while Cyrus Erachshaw had one. Foil was led by a 3-0 mark from Trubetski as Badlani and Alan Hu notched one win each. Yurovchak contributed a 3-0 record against the Vikings, with Tumibay picking up the final win.


Foil went 6-3 against Vassar, with Badlani going 2-0 and Reznick adding two wins. Mathews and Trubetski tacked on the final wins as Yurovchak and Riley Parker went 2-1 at epee. The sabre group registered four wins against the host Brewers, as Morreale had two, with Ong and Erachshaw piling on one each. Against Cornell, epee went 6-3, as Tumibay, Parker, and Smith each had two wins. Erachshaw added two wins at sabre, as Badlani, Hu, Liam Thomas, and Ricardo Pires all had one at foil.


INSIDE THE RESULTS
  • Yurovchak had a team-best 11 victories, going 11-4 across five matches.
  • Badlani paced the foil weapon group with nine wins, with Trubetski adding six.
  • Morreale led the sabre group with eights, as Erachshaw added six.
  • Tumibay went 7-5 at epee, while Smith and Mathews added six wins.
