Men's Fencing Splits In Home Opener

Ducks Down Rutgers, Drew

Hoboken, N.J. – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's fencing team knocked off Rutgers University and Drew University during the MACFA Group A vs. Group B Tournament on Sunday morning.

Stevens topped Rutgers 20-7 and Drew 18-9 but were upended by Cornell University and Lafayette University 17-10. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
Sabre was a perfect 9-0 in the win over Drew. Colin Mahoney, John Morreale, and Cyrus Erachshaw all went unblemished within the weapon group. Both foil and epee went 4-5 to help knock off the Rangers. Rocco Mathews tallied two wins at foil as Erik Marren went 2-1 at epee. Riley Parker and Nicholas Smith also notched wins at epee with Nick Reznick and David Trubetski earning triumphs at foil.

The Ducks registered victories at all three weapon groups against the Scarlet Knights. Foil went 7-2, with James Glover and Alan Hu posting three wins each. Mahoney was a perfect 3-0 at sabre, as Tyler Kometani and Chinli Ong racked up two victories. Marren was also excellent against Rutgers, knocking three victories at epee. Esat Adiloglu also contributed two wins at epee, with Smith and Aden Vishnevsky gaining a victory.

Sabre and foil had strong showings in the setback against Lafayette as each went 5-4. Reznick and Dev Badlani picked up two wins against the Leopards at foil, with Mahoney registering three at sabre. Erachshaw posted two victories against Lafayette before Morreale notched a pair against Cornell. Reznick was the lone dual winner against Cornell in foil, going 2-1.

INSIDE THE MEET
  • Sabre went 24-12 over the four bouts, with foil going 20-16.
  • Mahoney went 10-2 on the day at sabre, as Morreale went 5-4.

The Ducks visit Columbia University on Friday to battle the Lions and Johns Hopkins University beginning at 5 pm.
