KANSAS CITY, Mo. (March 12, 2024) – Junior
Jack Spellman of the Stevens Institute of Technology men's basketball team was named Second Team All-District IV, the National Association of Basketball Coaches Association announced Tuesday.
The district (regional) recognition from the national organization is the first for Spellman and the first for Stevens since alumnus Alec DiPietrantonio was recognized by the organization in 2022. The All-District honors are voted on by NABC-member coaches across NCAA Division III. Spellman is believed to be the seventh player in program history to earn the distinction.
Spellman, the MAC Freedom's Defensive Player of the Year for the second straight season, finished the 2023-24 campaign by averaging a double-double for the second straight season, posting 12.6 points and 10.9 rebounds across 28 games. The Westfield, New Jersey native led Division III in blocks with 114 and the junior forward averaged 4.07 blocks per game, which also led the nation. He recorded 11 double-doubles and had a triple-double with 12 points, 14 rebounds and 11 blocks in a non-conference win over St. Joseph's (L.I.).
Spellman amassed 352 points and a career-high 305 rebounds. He poured in a season-high 26 points in a road conference win at Arcadia and snagged a career-high 19 rebounds in the Ducks' NCAA matchup with Farmingdale State. He shot 48% from the floor and 71% from the line and earned Most Valuable Player honors of the Stevens Men's Basketball Holiday Tournament.
Spellman was joined on the NABC's Second Team All-District IV Team by DeSales' Elijah Eberly, Wilson's Darryl Garib, Ramapo's Peter Gorman and Rowan's Khalif Mears. Ja'Zere Noel of Rowan was tabbed District IV's Player of the Year, while DeSales' Scott Coval was recognized as the district's Coach of the Year.
About the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC)
Located in Kansas City, Missouri, the NABC was founded in 1927 by Phog Allen, the legendary basketball coach at the University of Kansas. Allen, a student of James Naismith, the inventor of basketball, organized coaches into this collective group to serve as Guardians of the Game. The NABC currently has nearly 5,000 members consisting primarily of university and college men's basketball coaches. All members of the NABC are expected to uphold the core values of being a Guardian of the Game by bringing attention to the positive aspects of the sport of basketball and the role coaches play in the academic and athletic lives of today's student-athletes. The four core values of being a Guardian of the Game are advocacy, leadership, service and education. For additional information about the NABC, its programs and membership, please visit
