Salt Lake City, Utah – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's fencing team opened its 2025-26 slate at the prestigious North American Cup over the weekend.
The four-day event, which spanned Friday through Monday, featured
Dev Badlani (Division I Foil, Junior Men's Foil),
Nick Reznick (Division I Men's Foil),
Spencer Depew (Division I Men's Sabre, Junior Men's Sabre), and newcomer
Donovan Aggeler (Junior Men's Épée).
HOW IT HAPPENED
Depew had a strong showing in Junior Men's Sabre on Friday, finishing 4-2 in Pool 12. His four victories tied for the pool high, while his 25 touches ranked fourth in the group. The sophomore posted a +6 touch differential, the second-best mark in his pool. Seeded 88th entering the tableau, Depew faced Marcus Pinto of Brazil in the opening round but fell 15-10. In Division I Sabre, Depew added two more wins and 23 touches, defeating William Laub and Anson Ho before falling 15-9 to France's Guillaume Ganascia-Lin.
Reznick tallied two victories and 24 touches in Pool 3 of Division I Foil, finishing with a +3 differential. The Marlboro, New Jersey native earned wins over Noah Newman and Eric Zobel to advance to the elimination round, where he was edged by Jeidus Deseranno 15-5. Deseranno went on to reach the Round of 16.
Badlani earned a pool victory over Luca Ghedini and recorded 17 touches in Division I Foil. He followed that performance with an impressive 4-2 showing in Junior Foil, tallying 26 touches to tie for second in his pool before falling 15-10 to Yujun Jeong in the opening round. Making his collegiate debut, Aggeler registered 10 touches in Pool 1 of Junior Épée.
