Ewing, N.J. – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's swim team won four events to highlight the opening day at the TCNJ Invitational.
After day one, Stevens leads the four-team field with 324 points. The host Lions are second with 263.5, as Cortland (213) and Merchant Marine (114.5) round out the field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Ducks began the night with a statement victory in the 200 freestyle relay, as
Natalia Brunetti,
Eszter Kiss,
Adriana Bertolotti, and
Delaney Klaus combined for a 1:37.31 to win the A final. Stevens' B relay team of
Gabby Sokolik,
Samantha Gallo,
Paige Bleckley and
Ashley Settle placed fifth in 1:42.80.
Stevens carried that momentum into the 500 free, where three Ducks reached the A final.
Dora Dvorkin led the charge with a runner-up 5:20.06, followed by
Emery Fitzharris in third at 5:22.41 and
Julia McKinley in sixth with a 5:25.05. Two more Ducks scored out of the B final, as
Gabby Tyer (5:22.14) and Abby Rosingana (5:23.04) placed ninth and 10th overall. The Ducks' most dominant event of the evening came in the 200 IM, where Kiss powered to a convincing win in 2:08.82, besting the field by almost four seconds. Teammates
Hanna Matheson (2:15.14) and Sokolik (2:17.73) placed third and fourth in the A final. In the B final,
Megan Koek earned 10th overall in 2:19.44 to round out a deep scoring event.
Stevens then claimed its second individual win of the night in the 50 free, where Klaus surged to the wall in 24.24 to take the A final. Brunetti tied for third in 24.86 and Bertolotti placed fifth in 25.37. Three Ducks competed in the B final: Bleckley (25.78), Settle (25.81), and Gallo (26.01), adding more valuable points. The session concluded with a commanding relay performance in the 400 medley relay. Kiss, Bertolotti, Brunetti, and Klaus dominated the A final with a 3:56.57 to win by more than eight seconds. Stevens also placed fourth with the B relay in 4:10.00, with Bleckley, Settle, Matheson, and Sokolik swimming on that foursome.
