YORK, Pa. – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's swimming team picked up 381 points, good for a 68-point cushion over the rest of the field through the first day of competition on Thursday at the 2025 Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Championships, hosted by York College of Pennsylvania.
Widener (313), York (310), Arcadia (198), and Misericordia (148) rounded out the top-five of an opening day of conference-championship competition that ended with everyone looking up at the Ducks.
The team had three top-three finishers in the day's 'A' finals, plus two wins in 'B' finals, and a second-place finish in the 200-yard individual medley relay.
Ryan Ward cut more than six seconds from his team-best time coming into the meet, taking third in the 500-yard freestyle 'A' final in 4:47.25.
Andrew Gaba and
Kerem Dogruer took sixth and eighth, the trio combining for 73 points.
Joe Sparshott and
Andy Kolecki added 32 more points with their 'B' final performances.
Angel Velasquez and
Edward Platonov went 1-2 in the 200-yard individual medley 'A' final, Velasquez touching in 1:53.67, his first time under 1:59.00 in the event this year.
Liam Rodgers took seventh in 1:59.35, his first sub-2:01.00 performance of the season – the three amassed 83 points between them.
Lukas Mikulenas led a Duck-filled 'B' final, taking the top spot in the race, joining forces with
Gailen Davis,
Will Hyde, and
James Johnson and getting the Ducks yet another 58 points.
Will Stibor was the Ducks' lone representative in the 50-yard freestyle 'A' final, finishing sixth and picking up 24 points.
Cade Cermak was the team's only other point-getter in the event, earning 20 with his win in the 'B' final, swimming a 21.65 that would have been good for sixth in the 'A' final.
In the evening's final event, the 200-yard medley relay team of Velsquez, Mikulenas,
Deo Bove, and Stibor picked up 56 points with a time of 1:33.89, just behind York, who set a new conference championship-record in 1:32.50
Up Next: Three more individual champions will be crowned tomorrow evening in the 400-yard individual medley, 100-yard butterfly, and 200-yard freestyle.
