YORK, Pa. – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's swimming team will enter the final day of competition at the 2025 Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Championships (hosted by York College of Pennsylvania) with a comfortable lead after another strong day in the pool Saturday.
Stevens heads to Sunday with 1197 points, 114 points ahead of second-=place Widener, the only other school within 350 points of the Ducks.
Saturday evening's finals opened with the 200-yard butterfly, with
Edward Platonov and
Deo Bove going 1-2 for the Ducks in the 'A' final; Platanov shaved six seconds off his best time of the season for a 1:52.27 and Bove cut four seconds from his fastest swim of the season, touching in 1:55.13.
Joe Sparshott and
Conlan Hurley took sixth and seventh, respectively. In all, the Ducks came out of the event with 123 points.
In the 100-yard backstroke 'A' final,
Ethan Emerton was sixth after 50 yards, but closed in 26.38, the fastest split over the final 50, to grab third.
Jack Martinek (5
th) and
Ryan Ward (7
th) combined with Emerton to take 75 points in the event.
Angel Velasquez took the 100 breaststroke 'A' final by nearly a full second and
Cade Cermak missed a top-three finish by less than three-tenths of a second.
Lukas Mikulenas took seventh in the event and
James Johnson/
Gailen Davis went 1-3 in the 'B' final, totaling 117 points for the Red and Gray.
In the final event of the day, the 800 free relay team of Cermak-
Will Stibor-Bove-Platonov put another 56 on the board with a second-place finish, leaving the Ducks three points shy of 1,200.
