YORK, Pa. – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's swimming team remained in first place through Day Two of the 2025 Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Championships (hosted by York College of Pennsylvania) with 794 points after a Friday filled with strong performances by individuals and relay teams alike.
The Ducks enter Saturday 32 points clear of Widener (762 points); York (662), Misericordia (440), and Arcadia (399) rounded out the top five.
The 200-yard freestyle relay team of
Will Stibor,
Angel Velasquez,
Cade Cermak, and
Edward Platonov finished second, opening the evening with a 56-point haul.
Ethan Emerton,
Liam Rodgers, and
Will Hyde went 2-4-7 in the 400-yard individual medley 'A' final, totaling 77 points between them. Emerton knocked more than two seconds off his best time of the year in prelims, then shaved another five seconds off in the final. Rodgers cut five seconds off his top time of the season between the prelims & final and Hyde swam under 4:24.00 in both the prelims and final, his first two times under 4:37.00 this year.
Conlan Hurley touched first in the 'B' final, adding another 20 points.
Deo Bove and
Jack Martinek combined for 50 points in the 100-yard butterfly 'A' final, with
Joe Sparshott taking the top spot in the 'B' final for 20 additional points.
Platonov was the lone Duck in the 200-yard freestyle final but took second for 28 points with a 1:42.64, matching his prelim time which was nearly five seconds faster than his top time of the season entering the meet. Stibor and
Andy Kolecki added 30 more points with their efforts in the 'B' final.
In the night's final event, the Velasquez-Cermak-Bove-Platonov 400-yard medley relay team finished second for another 56 points, making up a .23 second difference on Widener in the final leg.
Up Next: Champions will be crowned on Saturday in the 200 butterfly, 100 backstroke, 100 breaststroke, and 800 freestyle relay. Prelims begin at 9:30 a.m., and finals will begin at 5:30 p.m.
