ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's swimming quartet of
Edward Platonov,
Ryan Ward,
Deo Bove, and
Ethan Emerton were named Academic All-MAC by the Middle Atlantic Conference office Thursday, following outstanding seasons for all both in and out of the water.
Platonov earns a remarkable fourth straight Academic All-MAC honor, adding to an already lengthy resume that grew in stature even more this Winter. The Milford, Conn. native was First Team All-Conference in the 200-yard freestyle and Second Team All-Conference in six other events -- 200-yard freestyle, 200-yard individual medley, 200-yard freestyle relay, 400-yard freestyle relay, 400-yard medley relay, 800-yard freestyle relay, bringing his four-year total of All-MAC honors to 26.
Ward earns his first Academic All-MAC honor after earning a pair of All-MAC honors for his efforts in the pool for the second straight season. The Yardley, Pa. native earned Third Team All-Conference recognition in both the 500-yard freestyle and the 200-yard backstroke.
Bove, an Academic All-MAC selection last season as well, entered the season with four All-MAC honors for his efforts in the water, then matched that this year, earning Second Team All-Conference in the 200-yard butterfly, the 200-yard medley relay, the 400-yard medley relay, and the 800-yard freestyle relay.
Emerton made a sizable splash in his first season in Hoboken. The Cary, N.C. native was First Team All-Conference in the 200-yard backstroke, Second Team All-Conference in the 400-yard individual medley, and Third Team All-Conference in the 100-yard backstroke.
The Academic All-MAC teams are based off semester grade-point averages (GPA) for the semester of their championship season. The minimum GPA required is a 3.20, and the student-athlete must remain an eligible member of the team through the conclusion of the season. Voting for this award is based on 50% academic excellence and 50% athletic prowess.
