DYNASTY! Men's Swimming Claims Sixth Straight MAC Championship

York, Pa. – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's swim team dynasty continues as the Ducks claimed their sixth consecutive Middle Atlantic Conference Championship after the four-day meet.

Angel Velasquez was named the David B. Emerson Male Swimmer of the Year after earning two first-place and four second-place finishes. Velasquez is the fourth to gain Swimmer of the Year honors, joining teammate Edward Platonov (2023), Ali Kolenovic (2022), and Kurt von Autenried (2021). The Ducks totaled 1,589.5 team points, besting second-place Widener, who tallied 1,424 points, and third-place York, who had 1,152 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Ethan Emerton gave Stevens their lone victory of the final day, taking first in the 200-backstroke. Emerton, who was the leader going with a preliminary time of 1:52.2, won the event in the night session with a time of 1:51.7. Ryan Ward was fourth in 1:54.83, while Deo Bove was seventh in 1:57.24.

Velasquez entered the 200 breaststroke as the top seed, registering an opening round mark of 2:06.61. He settled for second in the finals, notching a time of 2:05.5, and was clipped by a mere.22 seconds by Dan Jackson of Widener. The foursome of Will Stibor, Cade Cermak, Jack Martinek, and Platonov grabbed second in the final event, the 400-freestyle relay. The quartet finished in 3:06.4, missing first by under a second.

Stibor led three consecutive finishers in the "A" final of the 100-freestyle, finishing fourth in 47.18. Cermak was sixth in 47.21, while Martinek was seventh in 47.55. Andrew Gaba paced the Ducks in the 1,650-freestyle, taking sixth place in 16:59.79. Kerem Dogruer was eighth in 17:17.66, with Andy Kolecki finishing 11th in 17:25.59. Gailen Davis placed third in the 100-freestyle "B" finals, tying for 11th place with a mark of 49.32.
