Women's Tennis Topped by No. 36 RPI In Spring Opener

Box Score Troy, N.Y. – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's tennis team opened their spring slate with a 7-0 setback against No. 36 Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Engineers took a 1-0 advantage after doubles, claiming all three doubles bouts. The No. 2 duo of Lorena Piegas and Wei Wei Lai came up just short of taking a win but fell 7-5. Stephanie Untermeyer and Alix Dry fell 6-2 at the top of the lineup, with Emma Eguia and Milagros Carbajal Diaz dropping a 6-1 decision at No. 3.

Dry was the lone Duck to force three sets, as she upended 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 at the No. 1 singles position. Carbajal Diaz battled at No. 6 singles, falling 7-5, 6-3. Piegas came up short at No. 3 in a 6-2, 6-2 loss as Eguia, Lai, and Julia Chiovitti were upended by identical 6-2, 6-1 score margins at No. 2, No. 4, and No. 5 singles, respectively.
