Men's Fencing Sweeps MACFA Group B vs. Group C Meet

]Hoboken, N.J. – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's fencing team enjoyed a perfect 4-0 day as they hosted the MACFA Group B vs. Group C battle on Sunday inside Canavan Arena.

The Ducks topped Navy (23-4), Haverford (19-8), Maryland (22-5), and William & Mary University (17-10).


HOW IT HAPPENED
Stevens dominated epee and sabre weapon groups, going 31-5 at epee and 30-6 at sabre over the four matches. Sabre was 9-0 against both Navy and Haverford while going 6-3 against Maryland and William & Mary. John Morreale, Spencer Depew, and Cyrus Erachshaw went 3-0 in the wins over Navy and Haverford, as Tyler Kometani, Chinli Ong, and Depew had identical 2-1 results against Maryland. Depew capped off his day with three wins against William & Mary as Komentani tacked on two more. Ong closed out the sabre wins with a single victory against W&M.

The Ducks had 9-0 wins at epee against Navy and Maryland while adding an 8-1 triumph over Haverford and a 5-4 win against William & Mary. Erik Marran and Noah Tumibay had 3-0 marks against Navy, with Nicholas Smith adding two and Andrew Yurovchak picking up one. Yurovchak and Smith went a combined 6-0 against Haverford in Round 2, with Tumibay notching the final two wins. The Ducks earned a forfeit win over Maryland, with Smith, Tumibay, and Yurovchak getting credited for three victories apiece. Marran was the catalyst against the Tribe in the final bout of the day, going 3-0. Jose Martinez-Ponce and Esat Adiloglu followed with a win each to give the epee five wins.


The foil unit collected 20 victories over the four matches, going 7-2 against Maryland, 6-3 against William & Mary, 5-4 against Navy, and 2-8 against Haverford. Alan Hu went 3-0 in the wins over Maryland and William & Mary, with Aden Vishnevsky and Graham Shambarger going 2-1 against Maryland. Liam Thomas had two wins against William & Mary, as Vishnevsky added a solo triumph. David Trubetski led the foil squad with two wins against Navy, with Rocco Mathews, Nick Reznick, and James Glover getting one. Reznick and Trubetski were the lone foil winners against Haverford.


UP NEXT
The Ducks head to Temple University next Sunday to compete in the Temple Invitational beginning at 9 am. They will battle Penn, Princeton, Penn State, St. John's, and Johns Hopkins in their regular season finale.
