Men's Basketball's Spellman Named Finalist for Prestigious Jostens Trophy

SALEM, Va. -- Stevens Institute of Technology men's basketball senior Jack Spellman was named a finalist for the prestigious Jostens Trophy, the Rotary Club of Salem announced. He is just the second finalist for the award in school history, Spencer Cook in 2020 being the first.

The Jostens Trophy is a national award created by the Rotary Club of Salem to honor the most outstanding men's and women's NCAA Division III basketball players of the year. The award takes into account three vital parts: basketball ability, academic prowess, and community service. The trophy models the Rotary International motto of "Service Above Self" by recognizing those who truly fit the ideal of the well-rounded NCAA Division III student-athlete.

Regarding basketball ability, Spellman recently completed a four-year career reaching a triple milestone of 1,000 points, 1,000 rebounds, and 300 blocks, one of just seven known players in D-III history to hit all three marks. This past season, Spellman averaged a double-double for the third time in his Stevens career, putting up 11.6 points and a career-best 12.8 rebounds per game, earning All-Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom First Team AND MAC Freedom Defensive Player of the Year Honors for the third straight season, helping lead the Ducks to a third conference championship game appearance in the last four years.

In the classroom, Spellman has been as much a standout as he's been on the court, accumulating a 3.66 GPA while making the MAC Honor Roll four times, the Dean's List six times, and earning College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Selection. In the community, Spellman has volunteered with members of Stevens Men's Basketball at the Hoboken Shelter and the Hoboken Boys and Girls Club.
