ANNVILLE, Pa. – Stevens Institute of Technology men's basketball players
Jack Spellman,
Kyle Maddison, and
Mike Goodall all earned All-Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom honors, as announced by the league office Wednesday morning.
Spellman was named the conference's Defensive Player of the Year AND All-Conference First Team for a third straight season. Maddison joined Spellman on the First Team after a breakout sophomore season, and Goodall wrapped his collegiate career with a second straight Honorable Mention selection and third straight all-conference honor (Second Team in 2022-23).
Delaware Valley's Antonio Redding and Misericordia's Kevin Lazdowsky were named co-Player of the Year, Arcadia's Jamison Lynam was tabbed Rookie of the Year, and Delaware Valley's Muhamadou Kaba earned Coach of the Year recognition.
Spellman finished the year averaging 11.6 points and 12.8 rebounds per game, with 15 double-doubles, including four games with at least 15 points and 15 boards. Defensively, the 6-9 senior averaged 3.11 blocks per game, more than double the average of all but one other player in the conference. His 84 total blocks included 11 games with at least four and five with at least five. Adding to his already decorated career, Spellman surpassed 1,000 career points, 1,000 career rebounds, and 300 career blocks this season.
Maddison had a breakout sophomore campaign, leading the MAC Freedom regular season champions with 15.2 points per game, including seven 20+-point affairs. Maddison averaged just under three 3-point field goals per game, shooting 42.7 percent for the year. The Sunnyvale, Calif. Native reached double figures in 22 games, thanks in large part to 15 games with at least three 3-pointers and 10 games with at least four.
Goodall averaged a career-best 13.7 points per contest during his graduate year, including five 20+-point games and three 25+-point games. In MAC Freedom regular season action, he shot at a 50.6 percent clip from beyond the arc, including a 57.6 percent clip against the three other MAC Freedom Tournament teams – Delaware Valley, Misericordia, and Arcadia.
