NEW YORK, N.Y. – Stevens Institute of Technology men's basketball forward
Jack Spellman and guard
Kyle Maddison were named to the All-Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association (MBWA) Second Team (Spellman) and Third Team (Maddison), as announced by the organization on Tuesday.
Spellman earns his third MBWA honor, after nabbing First Team recognition following the 2023-24 season and Second Team recognition following the 2022-23 season. Maddison earns his first such honor after a breakout sophomore campaign.
The MBWA honor is just the latest postseason accolade for Spellman, following NABC All-District 4 Second Team and D3hoops.com All-Region IV Second Team recognition, as well as a third straight season being named All-MAC Freedom First Team and MAC Freedom Defensive Player of the Year.
Spellman averaged a double-double for the third time in his Stevens career this past season, posting 11.6 points and a career-high 12.8 rebounds per game, capping a remarkable four-year career by reaching a rare triple milestone: 1,000 points, 1,000 rebounds, and 300 blocks—an achievement accomplished by only seven known players in NCAA Division III history.
Maddison led the MAC Freedom regular season champions with 15.2 points per game, including seven 20+-point affairs, joining Spellman on the all-conference First Team. Maddison averaged just under three 3-point field goals per game, shooting 42.7 percent for the year. The Sunnyvale, Calif. native had at least three 3-pointers in 15 games and at least four in 10, a major factor in him reaching double figures in 22 of his 27 games played.
The 2024-25 All-Met teams will be honored at the 92nd MBWA Haggerty Awards dinner on Thursday, April 24, at the Sleepy Hollow Hotel & Conference Center in Tarrytown, New York. The Haggerty dinner is the longest running, media-managed college basketball awards program in the United States.
