ANNVILLE, Pa. – Postseason recognition continued for Stevens Institute of Technology men's basketball student-athletes
Jack Spellman and
Kyle Maddison on Monday as both were named Academic All-MAC by the Middle Atlantic Conference office.
The Academic All-MAC teams are based off semester grade-point averages (GPA) for the semester of their championship season. The minimum GPA required is a 3.20, and the student-athlete must remain an eligible member of the team through the conclusion of the season. Voting for this award is based on 50% academic excellence and 50% athletic prowess.
Both Spellman and Maddison were previously named to the All-MET by the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association (MBWA) and All-MAC Freedom by the conference office.
Spellman earns a third straight Academic All-MAC honor, following up on a fourth straight All-MAC Freedom selection, a third straight All-MET selection, and All-Region selection by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) and d3hoops.com.
Spellman capped a remarkable four-year career by reaching a rare triple milestone: 1,000 points, 1,000 rebounds, and 300 blocks—an achievement accomplished by only seven known players in NCAA Division III history. For the season, he averaged a double-double for the third time in his Stevens career this past season, posting 11.6 points and a career-high 12.8 rebounds per game.
Maddison's breakout sophomore season included seven 20+ point games, part of a season average of 15.2 points per contest, tops for the MAC Freedom regular season champions. He reached double figures in 22 games, knocking down at least three 3-pointers in 15 games and at least four in 10. In addition to the Academic honor, Maddison also earned his first All-MET and All-Conference selections as a Duck.
