Collegeville, Pa. – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's swimming team earned a decisive 170–90 victory over Ursinus College on Saturday afternoon to finish out the regular season
HOW IT HAPPENED
Stevens opened the meet with a win in the 400-yard medley relay, as
Ethan Emerton,
Lukas Mikulenas, Amadeo Bove, and
Will Stibor posted a final time of 3:34.16. The Stevens B relay of Sebastien Nappi,
Cooper Moffatt,
Kyle Phillips, and
Leo Timmermann finished third in 3:45.82, while the Stevens C relay of
Daniel Shemetov,
Gailen Davis,
Justin Lee, and
Patrick Cortelli touched in 3:47.54.
The Ducks closed the meet by sweeping the top two spots in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The Stevens A quartet of Timmermann, Bove, Nappi, and Stibor won in 1:28.00, followed by the Stevens B relay of
Niall Easton, Emerton, Shemetov, and Davis in 1:30.63. The Stevens C relay of Matt Beaney,
Bryan Laverty, Moffatt, and Phillips finished in 1:32.88.
In the 1,000-yard freestyle,
Cooper Moffatt placed second in 10:24.45, followed by
Yusuf Tokuz in third at 10:35.68 and Emerton in fourth at 10:53.61. Stevens earned a 1–2 finish in the 200-yard freestyle, led by Cortelli in 1:48.54, with Stibor just behind in 1:48.75. Laverty added a fourth-place finish in 1:54.07.
In the 100-yard backstroke, Timmermann finished second in 57.22,
Jonah Beth placed third in 58.20, and Shemetov touched in 58.87. Stevens controlled the 200-yard backstroke, as Emerton won in 2:00.36, followed closely by Bove in 2:00.86, while
Andrew Thau finished fourth in 2:08.45.
Breaststroke events were paced by Mikulenas, who won the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:00.07 and the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:17.19.
James Johnson placed third in the 100 at 1:02.99 and second in the 200 at 2:21.12, while
Jason Scheckner finished fourth in the 100 at 1:03.05 and fourth in the 200-yard IM at 2:08.37. In butterfly events, Lee won the 100-yard butterfly in 55.06, with Moffatt finishing second in 55.31. Phillips placed second in the 200-yard butterfly at 2:05.61, followed by
Will Hyde in third at 2:08.91 and
Andrew Gaba in fourth at 2:12.91.
Sprint freestyle races saw Bove win the 50-yard freestyle in 22.52, followed by Davis in 22.81 and Easton in 22.88. In the 100-yard freestyle, Stibor claimed first in 48.28, Nappi finished second in 48.91, and Beaney touched in 51.17. Stevens closed individual competition with Cortelli finishing second in the 200-yard IM in 2:03.98, while Gaba posted a time of 2:18.69.
