Waltham, Mass. – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's fencing team returned to competition on Saturday, competing in six bouts at the Eric Sollee Invitational, hosted by Brandeis University.
The Ducks fell to Boston College (18-9), Brandeis (20-7), MIT (17-10), NJIT (21-6), Brandeis "B" Team (18-9), and NYU (14-13).
HOW IT HAPPENED
The closest bout for Stevens came in the finale, as the Ducks were edged 14-13 by Hudson River rival NYU. Stevens won both foil (6-3) and epee (5-4) weapon groups but was bested at sabre (7-2).
Aden Vishnevsky was perfect at 3-0 in foil, while
Ricardo Pires posted a 2-1 mark.
Nick Reznick added a victory, while epee received a 3-0 performance from
Riley Parker.
Donovan Aggeler and
Skanda Krishnan also earned wins at epee, and
Chinli Ong collected two victories at sabre.
Epee also tallied a win against MIT, going 6-3, as foil and sabre added two wins apiece. Krishnan went 3-0, while Aggeler posted a 2-1 mark. Parker added another victory, with Reznick and
David Trubetski each earning wins at foil.
Ruilin Liu and Ong capped the triumphs against the Engineers, each finishing 1-2. Against the Brandeis "B" team, epee once again posted a winning record, going 5-4. Parker went 3-0, with
Kieran Jackson and Krishnan earning one win each. Foil was narrowly edged, 5-4, as Reznick went unblemished at 3-0. Trubetski and Vishnevsky added the final two victories for the weapon group.
Krishnan went 3-0 against Boston College, as Ong, Liu, Parker, Pires, Reznick, and Trubetski each added a victory versus their Division I foe. The duo of Aggeler and Krishnan combined for four wins against host Brandeis, while Parker went 1-2 at epee. Ong claimed the lone victory at sabre, with Reznick adding a triumph at foil. Against NJIT, Vishnevsky and Pires went 2-1 at foil, while Krishnan and Liu closed out wins at epee and sabre, respectively.

The Ducks will host their lone home tournament of the season next Sunday, welcoming MACFA Round Robin Group "B" to Canavan Arena and Walker Gym beginning at 10:00 a.m.
