Men's Tennis Claim Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year; Six Named All-MAC Freedom

Annville, Pa. – Player of the Year Max-William Kanz and Rookie of the Year Ian Batra headlined the Stevens Institute of Technology contingent on the All-Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom men's tennis team, as announced by the conference office on Monday.

Kanz, Batra, & Samvid Andhare were the Ducks' First Team honorees and Renat Kramin, Dhaivik Chenemilla, & Johnny Haase comprised the Second Team selections.

Kanz became a four-time All-Conference selection, Andhare and Haase each earned their third straight selection, and Chenemilla nabbed his second straight All-League honor..

The conference announcement comes less than 48 hours after Stevens won its sixth straight MAC Freedom Tournament Championship, following a 4-0 win over Misericordia in the semifinals last Wednesday and 4-0 over Lebanon Valley on Saturday. Kanz was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player for the secod straight year.

Kanz surpassed 50 career singles wins following a 13-8 regular season, including a 4-0 mark in conference play. Kanz won at No. 1 singles and doubles in a 5-2 win over Ithaca, won at No. 1 singles in a 5-2 win over UNC Wesleyan, and won at No. 2 singles in 4-3 victories over Salisbury and TCNJ.

The first-year Batra went 9-3 in dual competition singles and 7-3 in doubles with unblemished 5-0 marks in both during conference play. Like Kanz, Batra picked up singles win in the victories over Salisbury and TCNJ, adding 6-0, 6-0 or 6-0, 6-1 wins over Oneonta, Arcadia, and DeSales.

Andhare tied with Kanz and Tristan Wroe for the team lead in non-tournament singles wins (12) and tied with Chenemilla for the team lead in non-tournament doubles wins (11). The junior went 4-2 at No. 1 doubles (4-0 in MAC Freedom play) and 9-0 at No. 2 singles, including straight-set wins over Virginia Wesleyan, NYU, Franklin & Marshall, UNC Wesleyan, and Skidmore.

Another first-year, Kramin won all three of his conference doubles matches (two of those in 6-0 fashion at No. 1), while collecting singles victories at No. 2 against Ithaca and No. 3 against both Virginia Wesleyan & Macalester, plus a win at No. 4 against UNC Wesleyan.

Chenemilla, like Batra, finished conference play 5-0 in singles, complementing that with a 5-0 mark in conference doubles action as well. In non-tournament singles action, Chenemilla went 10-7, including a 3-1 mark between Nos. 2 and 3. The sophomore also went 11-7 in doubles with five different partners, most notably going 7-5 with Andhare. Chenemilla won his singles and doubles matches against DeSales without conceding a single game, then neqrly duplicated the feat against Lebanon Valley, dropping just two games in singles play.

Haase won his final six singles matches of the Spring season, dropping just eight games total, winning two matches 6-0, 6-0, one 6-0, 6-1 & one 6-1, 6-0; Haase also teamed with Chenemilla for a doubles victory over DeSales, winning 6-0.
