MADISON, N.J. – Senior midfielder John Quintanilla (Phoenix, Ariz./University) scored two goals to lead 16th-ranked Stevens Institute of Technology to a 5-0 win over FDU-Florham in a men’s soccer game on Wednesday.
Stevens earned its eighth straight win to improve to 9-1-2. FDU-Florham falls to 6-6.
Stevens took control midway through the first half as sophomore midfielder Chris Barsky (Holland, Pa./Council Rock) scored off a direct kick in the 24th minute. Sophomore Steve Liebezeit (Pompton Lakes, N.J./Pompton Lakes) scored off an assist from sophomore Brian Marks (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) in the 33rd minute.
The Ducks scored two goals in a span of 1:17 late in the first half to extend their lead to 4-0 at halftime. Marks scored unassisted at 42:41 and Quintanilla followed at 43:58 off an assist from junior Josh Ottinger (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland) at 43:58.
Quintanilla closed out the scoring with an unassisted goal at 66:20.
Stevens held a 21-7 advantage in shots and a 9-2 edge in corner kicks. Senior Sean Stevenson (Scottsdale, Ariz./Brophy College Prep) and freshman Chris Celentano (Newton, N.J./Newton) stopped one shot each to combine for the shutout for the Ducks. Zack Roth made six saves for FDU.
Stevens returns to action on Saturday, October 11, with a 1 p.m. game at Wilkes (Pa.).
