OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. – Junior forward Josh Ottinger (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland) scored three goals in a span of 21 minutes in the first half to lead Stevens Institute of Technology to a 7-1 win over SUNY-Old Westbury on Wednesday in a Skyline Conference men’s soccer match at Panther Park.
Stevens (5-1-2, 2-0 Skyline) took the lead in the fifth minute on a goal by sophomore Steve Liebezeit (Pompton Lakes, N.J./Pompton Lakes) who connected on a drive from the top of the penalty area off an assist from senior John Quintanilla (Phoenix, Ariz./University).
Ottinger then scored consecutive goals in the sixth and 18th minutes to extend the Stevens lead to 3-0. Sophomore Chris Barsky (Holland, Pa./Council Rock) scored the first of his two goals in the 20th minute with Quintanilla adding another assist. Barsky also connected on a penalty kick early in the second half.
Ottinger finished off the hat trick and gave Stevens a 5-0 lead at halftime when he scored from close range following a cross from sophomore Brian Marks (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury).
Old Westbury (1-9, 0-3 Skyline) received a goal in the 60th minute from Oscar Villegas who scored on a shot from 35 yards.
Freshman Christian Pontier (Forked River, N.J./Lacey) closed out the scoring for Stevens with a goal in the 65th minute.
Stevens held a 29-3 advantage in shots and an 8-2 edge in corner kicks. Senior Sean Stevenson (Scottsdale, Ariz./Brophy College Prep) and freshman Chris Celentano (Newton, N.J./Newton) split time in net for the Ducks, combining for two saves.
Stevens is back in action on Saturday, September 27, with a 1 p.m. Skyline Conference game at SUNY-Farmingdale.
