ORLANDO, Fla. (March 14, 2006) – Sophomore Dana Bacalla (Portland, Ore.) claimed the lone victory for the Ducks as the Stevens Institute of Technology women’s tennis team suffered an 8-1 loss to Emory & Henry College on Tuesday in Orlando, Fla. With the loss, Stevens fell to 7-7 on the year.
At first singles, Bacalla claimed a 7-6 (7-1), 6-1 victory over senior Trista McGlothlin (Jewell Ridge, Va.) of Emory & Henry. In the match of the day, freshman Rebecca Ryba (Old Brookville, N.Y.) lost a tough three-set match at fourth singles to senior Anne Ryan (Shawsville, Va.). The scores from the Ryba/Ryan match were 7-6 (7-5), 0-6, 12-10 in favor of the Wasps.
Sophomore Jacqueline Carbone (Basking Ridge, N.J.) suffered a narrow 6-4, 6-4 loss at fifth singles to senior Kate Childress (Shawsville, Va.).
The Ducks will be back in action on Thursday when they face the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse at 11:30 p.m. in Orlando.
