HOBOKEN, N.J. (November 3, 2007) – Freshman Evan Wilson notched a pair of new pool and school records in the 200-yard butterfly and the 200-yard individual medley on Saturday afternoon at the De Baun Aquatic Center as the Stevens Institute of Technology men's swimming team clipped Misericordia University by a final score of 129-114. With the win, the Ducks moved to a dual meet record of 2-0 while the Cougars fell to 1-1.
Wilson registered a mark of 2:00.02 in the 200-butterfly. The previous record-holder was sophomore Kevin Kim, who recorded a clocking of 2:03.27 in the 2006-07 season. In the 200-individual medley, Wilson posted a time of 1:59.98, which broke the 2:03.75 mark that freshman Nicholas Walulik set earlier this year.
In other individual performances, Walulik and freshman Thomas Takahashi each picked up a pair of top finishes. Walulik earned a first-place time of 57.15 in the 100-yard backstroke before clocking a 55.13 in the 100-yard butterfly. As for Takahashi, he collected first-place points in the 100-yard freestyle with a mark of 50.10 and a second-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:03.58.
Misericordia was led by freshman Jeff Clark (Middletown, N.Y.), who put his name next to a Stevens pool record after clocking a time of 2:19.80 in the 200-yard breaststroke. He also accumulated top honors in the 100-yard breaststroke with a mark of 1:02.19.
Head Coach Trevor Miele and the Ducks return to action on November 16 when they compete in the Golden Bear Invitational, which will be hosted by Kutztown University. The first race is scheduled to get underway at 9 a.m.
