Despite Ringstad Win Men's Tennis Falls To ITA Northeast Region No. 10 Skidmore

HOBOKEN, N.J. (March 26, 2011) – Junior Jason Ringstad captured a decisive 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 4 singles, but the Stevens Institute of Technology men's tennis team, ranked 12th in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Northeast Region rankings, fell to visiting ITA Northeast Region No. 10 Skidmore College 8-1 at the Stevens Tennis Courts in Hoboken, N.J. With the loss, Stevens dropped to 2-4 overall on the season, while the Thoroughbreds improved to 5-4 on the year.

Skidmore senior Spencer Cheng (Bainbridge Island, Wash.) and freshman Jimmy Sherpa (West Vancouver, B.C.) earned an 8-4 win over Stevens Chris Rosensteel and Shota Tasaki at No. 1 doubles, while Thoroughbreds junior Luke Granger (Allendale, N.J.) and senior Yahia Imam (Cairo, Egypt) secured an 8-4 triumph in the second slot over Ringstad and senior Arik Zeevy. Skidmore freshman Oliver Loutsenko (Bellmore, N.Y.) and sophomore Alex Fromson (Newton, Mass.) completed the doubles sweep with an 8-0 sweep in the third spot.

Granger headlined Skidmore's singles lineup, defeating Rosensteel, 6-4, 6-2, while Loutsenko ousted Zeevy 6-3, 6-4 at No. 2 singles. Cheng downed Tasaki 4-6, 7-5, 10-6 in a closely contested third singles match, before Ringstad earned the Ducks' lone win of the day with a 6-1, 6-0 triumph over Imam at No. 4 singles. Fromson and freshman Danny Knight (Ponte Vedra, Fla.) rounded out the day with wins at fifth and sixth singles, respectively.

Stevens returns to action at Drew University on March 30.
